How we spec a three-layer shell
Membrane numbers, face fabric, and why the zipper is louder than the cloth.
A 20k/20k rating is a floor, not a slogan. We spec a recycled 70D face so the cloth does not sound like a tarp, a membrane that breathes when you are working, and a DWR that is PFC-free because the old chemistry is not a flex.
Cut is athletic — sized to a grid fleece, not a down parka. If you wear the Firn underneath, size up. Helmet-compatible hood, two-way zip, hem that seals without a circus of cords. The user-manual version of this page is the spec table on the product.
We publish weight in grams, not “featherlight.” 412 g in medium. That is the honest number, and we will not round it off.
