Three days on the Palisades
A ridge shell, a 32-liter, and weather that did not read the forecast.
We packed the Ridge 3L and the Switchback 32 for a traverse that was supposed to be high cloud. It was graupel by the second col. That is the point of a flagship shell — not a lifestyle photograph, a piece that stays quiet in wind and dumps heat when you start moving again.
Pit zips earned their keep on the climb. The hood stayed put over a helmet. The pack’s hipbelt actually loaded a rope and a stove without bouncing on scree. Nothing here is costume mountaineering; it is the kit we would take again.
If you want the same stack: Ridge shell in Lichen, Firn down stuffed in the lid, Switchback in Pine. Shop the pieces below, or build the alpine weekend kit in one pass.
